This project has shown what is possible when facing the impossible with no funds.

With the sudden Global spread and management of Covid-19, we at HEAPS quickly shifted our sites and accelerated into community education.   The HEAPS team rallied together with local services against the greatest odds and no project money.

The first challenge was to educate the locals about the Coronavirus.  The most effective and fast way to do this was through mass media.   HEAPS PNG rallied local actors and musicians together where they designed then recorded a COVID 19 drama story.   The recording was done through NBC Provincial Broadcasting for the Sepik Province listeners.   Additional to this the local radio announcer communicated public health messages and therefore countering misinformation.

The play included a catchy hand-washing with soap jungle for the kids to sing and was performed to the general public in the Wewak compound where it was filmed for MTV.  A community hand-washing device was erected in the compound for the people to use.

HEAPS Australia deigned a double-sided Coronavirus information pamphlet which could be printed locally.
